Calculettón
“Where joy becomes workflow.”
(Reflected Harlequin Vale — Avanac, Reflected Aescharion)
Overview
Calculettón is the inverted reflection of Harlequin Vale — not a carnival city, but a grey solarpunk-industrial metropolis built on linearity, quotas, and corporate serenity.
Where Prime-Vale breathes chaos, Calculettón breathes efficiency:
Everything is rectangular.
Everything is quiet.
Everything has a workflow chart.
Towers of brushed steel rise in placid rows, topped with hydroponic greenhouses that feed the city’s elite. Workers below sustain themselves on Greymeal — the tasteless nutrient slurry that symbolizes the city’s values of order, uniformity, and emotional “calm.”
Calculettón is where Harlequin Vale’s concept of joy has been inverted into utility.
Founding Principles
Calculettón embodies the Rhadneserian ideal taken to a bureaucratic extreme:
1. Motion without whim.
Energy is encouraged, but only in regulated channels.
Innovation is scheduled and approved.
2. Emotion minimized for stability.
Laughter, sorrow, excitement — all considered disruptive.
3. Precision as virtue.
Every gesture, from farming to filing paperwork, follows standardized guidelines.
Over the decades, the city’s ethos has been shaped by Veyndar’s push to reintroduce Serendahl’s order into Reflected Aescharion. Though Rhadneser still rules the sky, Calculettón quietly resists her chaos with structure.
The Corporate Sectors
To understand Calculettón, one must understand what became of Harlequin Vale’s iconic institutions.
1. The Corporate Clown Hospital
“Healing Through Predictable Outcomes.”
The whimsical, human-driven Clown Hospital of Harlequin Vale becomes in Calculettón:
The Predictive Care Center (PCC)
A massive corporate medical complex built on:
efficiency metrics
emotional neutrality
identical smiling logos
Gone are the playful wards and painted faces.
Instead:
nurses wear pastel-gray scrubs
rooms are identical cubes
patient interactions are timed to the second
humor is banned as “uncontrolled stimulus”
emotional displays require administrative clearance
The logo — a minimalist circle suggesting a clown’s face — is intentionally symmetrical, stripped of delight.
Irony of Ironies:
The PCC still refers to nurses as “Clown Technicians,” but only in internal documents, purely for historical continuity.
It is deeply unfunny.

2. The Prop Foundries → The Prop Fabrication Division (PFD)
“Standardized whimsy for optimized engagement.”
In Harlequin Vale, props are handmade with love, chaos, and personality.
Calculettón industrialized them.
The PFD produces:
identical red noses
identical juggling clubs
identical rubber chickens
identical trick ribbons
identical banana peels fabricated from polymer
Everything is mass-produced by automation lines, inspected for:
exact weight
exact bounce
exact comedic potential rating (CPR)
No one really uses them theatrically — they are exported to Avanac’s few remaining performance districts, who describe them as “creepy” and “too perfect.”
Key difference:
In Calculettón, props are not objects of joy.
They are products of predictable engagement.
---
3. Sawdust Courts → The Office of Legal Uniformity (OLU)
“Law without spectacle.”
Vaudeville-style Harlequin courts vanish entirely.
In their place stands the OLU — a bureaucratic legal system based on:
case templates
symmetry audits
verdict algorithms
sentencing spreadsheets
Performative law is outlawed.
Circus-lawyers are imprisoned or retrained.
Courtrooms are soundproofed for emotional neutrality.
Attorneys wear smooth featureless masks during litigation to ensure no facial expression influences judgment.
Judges are replaced by:
automated stenotomes
three-person panels known as Tri-Referees
symmetry metrics influencing sentencing lengths
Food & Agriculture
Calculettón’s food culture is its most controversial feature.
Two-tier food system:
1. Greymeal (Worker Slurry)
Tasteless, perfect, efficient.
Created to eliminate:
cravings
distractions
culinary chaos
Workers consume it daily, stored in metal wall dispensers in every tower.
2. Greenhouse Harvests (Elite Crops)
The skyscraper rooftops are lush:
tomatoes
squash
rice
engineered vine-fruits
These are not for laborers, but for high-ranking analysts and managers who “need clarity” instead of nutrition.
Still Bastion despises this divide.
Calculettón shrugs and calls it “resource optimization.”
Cultural Climate
Calculettón is emotionally muted.
Workers speak softly.
Buildings hum with regulated noise dampening.
Entertainment is instructional video.
Bright color requires a license.
Joy exists, but only in scheduled bursts known as Morale Intervals — 7 minutes long, twice a day, featuring corporate-approved uplifting phrases.
Laughter outside approved windows is frowned upon.
Relationship to Still Bastion
This relationship is complex and foundational:
Still Bastion sees Calculettón as spiritually starved.
Calculettón sees Still Bastion as sentimental and inefficient.
Both sides believe the other must be “fixed.”
Still Bastion imports some of Calculettón’s machinery.
Calculettón imports vegetables from Still Bastion, grudgingly.
They will never become enemies — but never friends.
Veyndar’s Influence
Calculettón is Veyndar’s vision for the world:
emotion minimized
motion regulated
order restored
Rhadneser undermined quietly
He sees Greymeal culture as the first step toward bringing Serendahl’s philosophy back into Reflected Aescharion.
He wants the world to stop spinning chaotically.
Calculettón is his test run for a stillness-based society in a land ruled by motion.
Why People Stay
Calculettón is safe.
Predictable.
Stable.
For many:
chaos hurts
emotion is tiring
unpredictability feels like danger
So they choose routine over joy, because routine doesn’t betray you.
In One Sentence
Calculettón is Harlequin Vale stripped of whimsy — a city where joy is standardized, food is functional, law is algorithmic, and every smile has a productivity rating.
