👩⚕️ Nurse “Chuckle” (Arietta Chuckleworth)
Role: Head Nurse, Clown Hospital
Species: Human Gender: Female Pronouns: She/Her
Born / Origin: Silverwake Fortress, Canava
Background:
Arietta Chuckleworth once served as a combat medic in Silverwake’s naval infantry. She earned the nickname “Chuckle” after surviving a shipboard explosion and laughing through the pain while stitching herself shut. When her superiors discharged her for “unmilitary affect,” she traveled north and eventually found Harlequin Vale—a city that made her laughter seem normal.
Why She Came to the Vale:
She sought a place where laughter wasn’t disorderly conduct. Doctor Patch recruited her immediately after hearing she could perform surgery and slapstick at the same time.
Faith & Politics:
Tranquilist by upbringing but disillusioned with Silverwake’s rigid order. Now leans toward the Rational Coin, believing motion and humor are proof of life. She maintains cautious respect for Serendahl but refuses to call stillness holy.
Personality:
Blunt, pragmatic, louder than necessary. She jokes to fill silence because silence reminds her of battlefield triage. Patients trust her because she doesn’t pretend things are okay—she just fixes them.
Hobbies / Habits:
Collects medals she didn’t earn; trades them for good luck charms made by recovering patients. Drinks black tea like it’s medicine.
Aspirations:
To build the Vale’s first Field Clinic Wagon—a mobile hospital cart pulled by trained mules, so no performer dies waiting for transport.
Rumors & Hooks:
Keeps a locked trunk labeled “Uniform #3.” Some say it still bleeds when opened.
Occasionally writes letters to Silverwake soldiers, signed simply “Still Laughing.”
Once punched a Sanctifier of Stillness missionary for calling the hospital “a carnival of blasphemy.”
Profile:
Arietta “Chuckle” Chuckleworth is Harlequin Vale’s grounding presence in a city of chaos: equal parts battlefield nurse and ringmaster of triage. Her laughter isn’t joy—it’s defiance.
